You're Only as Good as Your Back End
While we provide a number of technology services, Intrinsix has always been a development studio first. We analyze a client's business goals, then recommend and construct efficient and effective web-enabled software that can further their objectives, increase revenues or reduce costs. Our specialty is producing new components that work seamlessly with your existing business processes, rather than forcing you to learn a new way of working. Over the years, web software has become more and more sophisticated and Intrinsix (one of very few web development firms with a dedicated R&D component) has always been at the forefront, marrying new enabling technology to rising needs in smart, business-effective ways. Web applications aren't static projects, however. A web project, in fact, is only as good as the network that supports it. When thousands of members, dealers, customers or fans are using your website every day, how it performs is just as important as what it can do. Reacting to attacks, dealing with network outages, and upgrading and adjusting for new browsers and new ways of working can occupy as much attention, over several years, as any project consumed initially. That's why at Intrinsix, we have always leveraged strong relationships with the Internet's biggest infrastructure providers, as well as developing and maintaining our own network of servers and support systems. Intrinsix is day-to-day responsible for the smooth operation of more than 400 websites, with about one third of those hosted and maintained on our own servers. We started building out our network in 1998 with a single web server on a telephone company rack. By the end of 2007, we owned and operated 24 dedicated web and mail servers located in our own network centers, in addition to offsite backup and failsafe resources in three countries. Phase III Network Expansion Our Phase III Network Expansion, which we'll be rolling out gradually throughout 2008, will include two new data centers, including one we're building from scratch, and an enhanced operations center that can monitor up to 200 different servers divided between different regions at the same time. We remain an overwhelmingly Sun and Cisco shop, and by the end of the year we'll have migrated most of our core (or 'elemental') servers to Sun's new CoolThreads technology, which will deliver up to 10x the performance for the same cost. It will also enable us to roll out two new server classes, including our new Canadian Commerce Servers, optimized and pre-configured for the latest Privacy Act and Credit Card processing requirements. We are also adding Linux and MacOSX servers to our mix to accommodate specific client requirements. When our Phase III network is complete, our clients will be able to benefit from hot-switched redundant servers, so that even if a catastrophe wipes out the entire neighborhood around one of our data centers, the websites and applications served from that location will automatically rehome to another data center within minutes. With always-active backups and intelligent routing of traffic, we will also be able to deliver higher performance and closer to total uptime. And most of all, we'll have the horsepower to handle the Next Great Thing. We think that our clients will be very excited about improving their own businesses once they see some of the new tools and services we'll be providing on the back of our expanded and upgraded network. We'll Make the Moves We will handle migrations as necessary, of course, during our expansion period. If your services are hosted with Intrinsix, the upgrades should be near-seamless. If you run a mix of Intrinsix and non-Intrinsix services, however, we will contact you to coordinate your individual upgrade timing.
