Now Playing: DecisionPoint: The Street
An Intrinsix-led effort to build an educational Internet game for K12 students, which received an unprecedented funding award from the keepers of Canada's Internet, is online now for free play. The DecisionPoint Project, an Internet game written and produced by Intrinsix Canada Inc., with the help of youth gang and street crime experts, is an educational experience for youth. An interactive experience that teaches real-life decision-making skills, the game's first module, The Street, is presented in gritty and realistic scenarios involving domestic violence, street crime and drug abuse. The Youth Gangs module, supported by a grant from CANARIE, Inc. is aimed at teaching basic skills to youth that are still years away from confronting the kinds of decisions that could draw them into lives of violent crime. By teaching this next-generation of decision-makers how to deal with complex and often-confusing inputs from parents, teachers, peers and the media, DecisionPoint hopes to foster a new generation of youth that's better equipped to deal with difficult choices. CANARIE, an industry-led and managed consortium charged with bringing Canada's Internet to the next level, called the six-figure project a 'groundbreaking work' that will raise Canadian content on the Internet to new heights. DecisionPoint was one of eleven projects sharing $2,000,000.00 in CANARIE support, and the only such project selected in Manitoba. The award marked the first time that CANARIE has recognized a Manitoba new media firm with this level of support. The DecisionPoint technology is a reusable framework for online education through user-driven role-playing, a system recognized by educators as one of the most effective training techniques for both children and adults. Future applications for the DecisionPoint technology include adult education, job retraining, and a series of online games for all ages from Intrinsix. Visit DecisionPoint now.
